As an admitted actressexual there are a few Aussie ladies that I'm curious about. Abbie Cornish gave an extraordinarily honest performance as an average girl who falls into addiction in "Candy" and has since followed it up with "Stop-Loss" and "Bright Star." Definitely one to watch for in the future. Isla Fisher had her breakthrough performance in "Wedding Crashers" where she gave the most fresh and funny performance out of the whole assembled cast. Since then she's mostly stayed within the comedy genre but there seems to be an untapped well inside this particular actress. I patiently wait for her to take on a dramatic role so the world can see what type of range she has. Almost six years ago my oldest sister asked me to watch "Wicker Park" with her and thus I was introduced to Rose Byrne. Her performance as a morally questionable girl who creates drama in the lives of those around made an impression on me. She's followed that up with fine performances in "Marie Antoinette" and "28 Weeks Later" but I'm still waiting to see something more from her. Here's hoping that these three lovely ladies will be around for awhile more.
Of course, there are hundreds of Australians working in film & television, here in North America and in Australia, a mere sample include some of the hardest-working names in the business:
Neill (A Cry in the Dark), George (30 Days of Night), Hyde (Richie Rich), Griffiths (Blow Dry), LaPaglia (Empire Records), Watts (Mulholland Dr.), Bana (Star Trek), O'Connor (A.I.: Artificial Intelligence), Wenham (300), Otto (The Lord of the Rings), Roxburgh (Moulin Rouge!), Armstrong (Lantana), Rush (Quills), Scacchi (The Player), Taylor (Almost Famous).
Australia has been generous in gifting us with incredible performers. Do you see one of your favourites?
And BTW, do they put something in the water over there because they seem to produce some of the HOTTEST men on the planet.
Enough said. CHEERS TO YOU, AUSTRALIA!
